Troubleshooting the E-30 Circuit Breaker Tripped Error Code

Overview

The E-30 error code indicates that a circuit breaker protecting the rear heating element in the fryer has tripped. The control system sends 24VAC in series through the side switches of the circuit breakers. If the control does not detect the return of this 24VAC signal, it triggers the E-30 error.

Call Avoidance

There are no remote or customer-level steps to resolve the E-30 error. The breakers are not accessible to the user. This issue requires a service call.

Recommended Parts:

  • Heating element

  • Circuit breakers

  • Side switches for circuit breakers

Recommended Tools:

  • Basic hand tools

  • Multimeter

  • Insulated screwdriver

  • Torque wrench

Field Troubleshooting

  1. Disconnect power from the fryer.

  2. Inspect the rear circuit breakers:

    • If a breaker is tripped, proceed to Step 3.

    • If no breakers are tripped, skip to Step 6.

  3. Identify the affected heating element (upper or lower) based on the tripped breaker.

  4. Disconnect wires from the identified heating element.

  5. Perform ohms check on the heating element:

    • Measure resistance across all three circuits within the fire bar heating element.

    • Expected resistance: {Bold Text-11 ohms (±10%)].

  6. If resistance is out of range, replace the heating element.

  7. If no breakers are tripped, check the 24VAC loop:

  8. Use a multimeter to verify 24VAC is present at each side switch.

    • If voltage is missing at any switch, replace the faulty side switch.

    • If voltage is present throughout, check wiring continuity back to the control board.

Other Possibilities

In rare cases Intermittent tripping could occur. Check the following below if this is the case.

  • Loose wiring connections.

  • Moisture ingress in the breaker housing.

  • A failing control board not properly detecting the 24VAC return signal.
